There is a gifted, intellectually talented species of animal living on this planet. It has developed rapidly during a period of mild climatic warming. It is called humanity. But all forms of life have it’s weaknesses.

The culture of humanity has fooled itself into following the religious beliefs that it is something more. Living in an illusion of specialness, raised above other planetary species, the lords of Earth as it were, beholden only to a God. This has happened due to living in fear. Fear of loss. Of loved ones, of life, loss of self. The feeling that something is inherently wrong. Is God dead?

And so humanity has raised itself up beyond loss. Not in this life but in the next. It has chosen to believe that the loss will only be of the physical body. And there will be another life where loved ones will be met, and self remains. And everything will be OK. So is seems that humanity is forever destined to live within the safety of this delusion as emotionally stunted children, never to grow up.

The entire society of humanity are nothing but little children. Living in perpetual immaturity from top to bottom. Leaders, teachers, parents, all children perpetuating a culture of children, and on and on for generations. But this has not altered the facts. Humanity remains as an intellectually talented and emotional stunted race of animals living in fear and the delusion believing that it is something more. Somehow apart from the world. Humans are apart yes, but only by being trapped in the collective mind of humanity. The reality is still the reality in spite of beliefs.

So it appears that a question needs to be asked, “what is reality”? How has this idea, this belief, attendant religion and cultural norm of specialness come about? Is it true? How can you who dwell in a perpetual dream of specialness, prove that all of this cultural concept is fact? Answering this question is the only way out.

The way to freedom.

In the last few days it has become clear that I am about finished with writing and speaking about this sort of stuff. I have realized that there is really nothing more that I have to say, or that I wish to say. That feels right. It is now clear that anything that I might say is not only incorrect, but redundant at this point. It’s not about what can be said but what need not be spoken. Anyway, I have done this for myself, not to convince anyone else.

This blog started a few years ago when I began the final leg of this journey to nowhere. At the time I was spending a lot of time in silence, hours every day. That was useful in developing mental discipline, and for writing haiku. Then the content began to change to more writing and less poetry. During the progression I found that I had less and less to write about. My knowledge was diminishing as I forged beyond the falsehoods that had produced this character Brant. Now I feel as if there is really very little left of him. A bit is left for family, especially Scott & Danny. Also a bit of what I need to get by in the world of humanity.

This is not to infer antisocial tendencies, but simply that I find that I have so little in common with people these days. The connection has just faded away, bit by bit. However, I have enjoyed writing and speaking both with this blog and the “Truth Talk” sessions. Thanks to all of the friends who willingly traveled with me as well as those who we passed on the road. Remember to keep going.

“Anything you experience based on knowledge is an illusion. There is no such thing as truth. The only thing that is actually there is your ‘logically’ ascertained premise, which you call truth. I am always emphasizing that somehow the truth has to dawn upon you that there is nothing to understand. When you know nothing, you say a lot. When you know something, there is nothing to say.” – U.G. Krishnamurti

I don’t know if there will be any further posts, but I plan to leave the site up for a while just in case, and out of respect to my readers.

Brant.

Friend One – “This will be a great exercise for you to bang your head against the wall until you figure out exactly why you posted this.”

Brant – Actually while I was writing, I felt that there was no reason to make this post. I feel like that every day, that there are no reasons for the things that I do. A couple of years ago I conducted an experiment to see what would happen if I no longer tried to push my agenda forward. Would my life fall apart? How far could I go in stopping the pushing? What I found felt really strange at the time. I appeared to be stopping but the stopping didn’t translate to the action. There appeared to be a Brant running on autopilot. So I speculated, if I wasn’t stopping when I intended to what was going on? That was one of the most amazing recognitions at that time.

Friend One – “Keep in mind that the ones you that you speak of are in fact you.”

Brant – That is the popular opinion among the guru’s of the day. Well, yes they are likely right since there is apparently nothing but awareness. It follows that everything is awareness.

Friend Two – That’s actually a really good experiment, and one that I also did. The doing actually happens by itself, which can’t be noticed when the doer is overlaid on top of that spontaneous activity, either in the form of trying to do something or trying to not do something. As you imply, it has to be an absence of trying. It’s worth pursuing what the implications of that are, which is not to be seen as pointless thinking, but maybe the clarity that ‘informs’ mind of it’s imagined doer-ship.

Friend One – When you say that everything is awareness, do you know that or is this a new belief that you have adopted? Curious how you think that could be true.

Brant – I take the question to be, how do I reconcile what I sense about awareness with actual experience? Let’s see if I can spit this out and make sense at the same time. OK, we appear to sense a world; energy and particle, but also a body and mind included in that world. We sense events happening which are part of the world, but also appears to include the body – mind. But… not to include the awareness. That so-called awareness seems to be what “I am”.

So can the awareness be objective? As in “an object”. If this “I” were objective, there would be something else that is awareness observing the “I”. Sensations in the body – mind, cannot be the “I”, because the “I”, is observing both. So, it seems that the “I” must be presence, or that which we call awareness. Now it seems that awareness cannot be limited. Objects have limits. But there seems to be very little limit to awareness, it appears to be continuous. Limited only by environmental factors. I seem not to know what is happening in China for example.

The concept of a limited “I” seems to be only a belief, idea or concept. That, at least is our experience. But, it still feels personal. This appears to happen because “I”, intimately attaches to the idea of personal. My body, my home & family, my toys. A nice experiment is to sit and listen to sounds. If we listen to a sound that appears in the distance, and also a sound that appears to be very close to our body, we can eventually see that those two sounds are indeed the same exact distance from awareness. Our perception that they are at different distances seems to be only an idea based upon our training, limited sensory – brain functionality and environmental reinforcement.

So, when I say that awareness appears to be the one constant, it is due to the fact that all other possibilities fail to hold up as that constant. The rest all evaporates eventually.

Friend Two – I’d say that’s pretty good stuff. The only part I have trouble with is this: Aside from saying it can’t be limited, then going on to describe it’s limits, it seems you’re confusing awareness with the content of awareness. Awareness itself has no boundaries, just the content, which is typically referred to as consciousness. The content of consciousness changes and consciousness itself comes and goes from that individuated perspective, but awareness never comes or goes or changes, and so has no boundaries of any kind. Awareness is the ‘screen’ on which all of that appears, or not. Even in deep sleep awareness is present , there just isn’t any content to be ‘aware of’. Likewise, before birth and after death, awareness is present. I know this because I don’t know that awareness can be absent. Where would that without boundaries go?

Brant – There seems to be a disconnect in communications here that we experienced in past discussions. Either I am not making this clear or maybe you are misunderstanding. As I have said in several posts, I know nothing. If you look at the phrasing of my comments, I use words like “seems to be” and “appears to be”. What I am doing is saying that this seems to be happening, but I cannot say for certain because I also see the limitations in this body-mind’s senses and brain functions.

I see the inherent limitations involved and can only say that although something seems to be happening (constant awareness), I cannot prove it beyond doubt. I too have heard others talk of this difference between consciousness and awareness. I understand thoroughly the distinctions involved between awareness and duality on an intellectual level. But that is not “seeing”. I cannot say what you are saying as it is not something that I have intimate seeing of which passes the falseness test.

Except, that there appears to be a constant awareness. Now what the limits of that awareness might be I cannot say since I don’t have a method of determining that. But there does seem to be a limitation and that may be the body-mind itself. Again I do not know this for a fact, It is only speculation. To me there is little point in such speculation other that for the fun of a good dialogue.

You seem to be saying that you are certain that awareness itself has no boundaries, just the content, consciousness does. I think we can agree that it appears that way, but how you can say that this is certain I don’t know. If you do indeed see this beyond doubt then I am very thankful. However again, I cannot say this myself so I must qualify what appears to be happening by saying it could be something else.

I can only say, yes it appears to be so just as you say, but I cannot say that with any measure of certainty.

There are so many involved in trying to figure things out. Did you come here to discover a secret? To obtain the piece of wisdom that you are missing?

There are also many who are just spiritual tourists. The happy bus leaves at 2:30PM.

Have you ever seen one of those Escher drawings? You know the ones that appear completely baffling until you see it from a different perspective? The key to all of this hype about spirituality and spiritual goals is really like that. It’s just a specific tweek of the mind and …

…you see it for what it is.

The brain/mind is such a misunderstood device. The real secret is that your mind is hiding the truth from you. Oh, you thought that you had control of it. Or knew that you didn’t and saw the matrix-esque delusion. Well I’ve got news. It is beyond that too.

The truth is so buried, so subtle that the mind is completely screwed in trying to find the answer. See, the thing is that the answer is really about the question. The mind will go round and round trying to figure it out and never find the end. Why? Because there is none.

The mind and body appear to be part of an energetic system which seems to create and then disappear upon body death. There appears to be nothing important surrounding this event. The body and mind might be likened to an animal which comes into being then departs when it’s life processes are complete. Is there anything more to it than that?

Is that the point?

I have a question for you. Are you more than the body/mind which appears to be nothing but a simple animal become complex and subsequently thinks that it is something special?

Another… is your language any more than the grunts of a primitive beast with attitude?

And, does that attitude mean that you are real?

Does trash appear to be part of the human animal called Bill, Amy or Sam? Does the idea of what does or does not exist appear to have you trapped? Thinking of trash and what exists for you? Success and failure? You are correct, just knowing things to be false cannot break out anyone from anything. “Knowing” is the key word here. Knowing is your greatest enemy. You already know too much. Of course ego clings, that’s what it does. You are in good company my friend. It will never let you go if it can keep you trapped. But… never fear. Relax. Really! You need to relax into this process. The ego only has you if you are concerned or afraid. Begin now to see it as it is. An artificially created anchor that weighs you down into fear and despair. Don’t let it drop you into the fear zone!Patience is needed. Perseverance is needed. Are you trapped in expectation of the goal perhaps? Don’t fear failure. Never expect success. That’s what it wants. Ego only wins if you resist or anticipate the goal. If you are afraid or concerned. That is what it feeds on. So don’t give it what it wants. Listen… No worries man. Go with the flow. Give up your clinging to success or failure. It really doesn’t matter.

Repeat…It really doesn’t matter. Just keep attentive to your inner workings and accept it as just what is.
